Work, Work, Work
I figure it's about time write about my job. And, not for anyone else, really, but for me. For me to remember this job. I really do love my job. I am not sure how many people could say that at 19 years old, but I can. I work at Orem Rehabilitation and Nursing as a receptionist. I just sit at the front desk and answer phones, greet people, answer questions, do projects, and get to the know the residents. That is my favorite part; getting to know the residents. I am waiting until my boss hires someone to take my spot so I can work as a CNA instead. Although I love my very wonderful, "cush" job, I cannot wait to start working as an aid. It sounds crazy, because really, who likes to wipe old people's bums? But I want to help people who can't help themselves. So, until then, I am perfectly fine with my job now. This facility, and the people who run it, are amazing. I have never met more caring people than my coworkers. I learn from them everyday; I learn to be patient and caring. The work they do, (helping stroke recovery patients walk again, for example) is so rewarding.
Anywho, the main reason I am writing about this is because this week was Nursing Home Week. So, of course, we celebrated all week long! Our activities department had something planned for every day of the week.
Monday: Hawaiian Day = grilled pineapple party
Tuesday: Western Day = BBQ for residents and their families
Wednesday: Fiesta Day = quesadillas and chips and salsa
Thursday: 80's Day = milkshakes and fries, then a talent show! (residents played piano, sang, told jokes, read poems, etc.)
Friday: Carnival Day = Activities set up a huge carnival outside with bouncy houses, sumo wrestling, a dunk tank, hot dogs, cotton candy, etc. The residents and staff members and their families loved it! And... me and some coworkers might have had some fun as well...
It was so fun this week to see the people we take care of have so much fun at all the activities. I am sure they enjoy something fun and entertaining during their long days.
Well, that's about it. One day when I am having a hard or boring day at work, I'll read this and remember how lucky I am to be working at such a great place.

It is wonderful when you LOVE your job! I hope the nursing will bring you the same satisfaction. I can honestly say I loved my job and was sad in many ways when I had to give it up. It always made me happy when I run into one of our patients and they remind me what a fun/nice office we had and that was even after they had to wait sometimes over and hr. or more. I felt that I did a good job at what I worked at and made the patients a priority.
