Work Hard, Play Hard

I just wanted to write a little bit about our jobs! Jesse just got a new job on campus! We were wanting him to find one before school started so he can just walk to school, work, and home. We are very happy he found a pretty close job that will be perfect for the school year. He works in one of the school's warehouses and helps move and transfer supplies. He says he is enjoying it and thinks it'll be the perfect no-stress job. (as if that is is possible, right?) I am happy he found something that he isn't going to feel so much pressure from, like his last job.

I have been meaning to write about my job, also, but am just now getting around to it. No one needs to read this, really, I just want to remember this job forever. I honestly am so lucky to have the job that I have. It's absolutely perfect for me for where I am at in my life. I am a Certified Nursing Assistant and I try to be the best one that I can. Most days I look forward to going to work. I found out that how my day goes at work all depends on my attitude. If I am tired, impatient, or unmotivated, then my day doesn't go as well. I need to remember that my work isn't about me, it's about my patients. And let me tell you, my patients are wonderful (most of them anyway). I get to work with so many different types of people. I try to make my work day all about them; even when I am tired and bothered. I love my co-workers, too! They make the days at work all the better. Everyone is always so willing to help you whenever you need it. I am sad I will be switching from the 6 a.m. -2 p.m. shift to the 2 p.m. - 10 p.m. in one week when school starts. The people I work with, mostly my cute girl friends, are a big reason of why work is so great. I am just nervous to have to get to the know the new people I will be working with and get in the swing of things with that shift. Plus, I don't get off until 10 which is never fun. But, hopefully it'll still be enjoyable.

I wish I could write a detailed summary of all of my patients, but that is a little too personal and would take forever. But, I do want to remember and quote some things my patients have said. None of you will think it's funny or know who I am talking about, but it'll be a little reminder for me of my patients.

1. After mocking my laugh and me asking why..."Because your laugh is just silly."
2. "I don't want to take my medicine. The nurse has been giving me 40,000 cc of heroine."
3. "Are you a boy?" "No... I'm a girl." "Well, then why do you have boy underwear on?" "I don't. They are called garments." "Oh yeah! I used to wear those... but I thought you were a girl?"
4. While wiping a bum... "Stop it, you shit head!"
5. "Are we in Utah?"
6. "Are you married?" "Yes, I am!" "Dang it..."
7. After trying to break up a fight between two patients..."I wish you were dead, asshole!"
8. "You have really big eyes..."
9. "I can't go to the bathroom because there's a knife up my butt."
10. "I knew you were coming... I heard you laughing all the way down the hall!"
11. "Could you or any one in house keeping give me a pill that will put me to sleep?" Okay, that one doesn't seem funny when you read it but it was extremely funny at the time. Also, very sad though.

There are so many more but I can't think of any more funny ones... My favorite quotes from my patients, though, are ones like this:

12. "I really appreciate all that you do for me."
13. "You are an angel in disguise."
14. Coming from a blind woman..."I wish I could see... but I know Heavenly Father knows what he is doing."
15. While going to bed..."Heavenly Father, please help me fall asleep. I am so tired."
16. "ALYSHA!" I love when not-really-there patients remember my name :)
17. "There's my baby girl!" (said in a North Carolina accent, followed by a hug and a kiss on the cheek:))
18. "Thank you."
19. "I love you."

I love my patients dearly and am lucky to work with them everyday. I really do learn something from them every time I am there.

P.S.  Some days we have CNA students shadow us. The other day, my dear friend Taylor got to shadow me. It was so fun to have her (and her Spanish) around all day. I sure do miss spending time with this girl!
