New Goals

After realizing two things, how unhealthy we've been lately and the fact that we have two beach/lake trips coming up, Jesse and I decided to set some simple goals last week.

1. Exercise every day
2. Don't eat late night snacks during the week

Guess what? We actually accomplished both these things! We had an AWESOME work out week. I've decided, with the help of my free personal trainer/husband, that I need to gain some muscle. I'm sort of a weakling. Not only will I gain muscle for health reasons but gain the tone that I would like to have while wearing a swimsuit for three weeks straight in August.

Monday: Back and biceps
Tuesday: Swim and abs
Wednesday: Chest and triceps
Thursday: Cardio
Friday: Shoulders
Saturday: Cardio and legs

It was a crazy week, let me tell you! Jesse pushed me super hard but I loved it. Pa, Michael, Sarah and Hannah, and C.C. joined us on a lot of the days, which was great. Jesse and his minions that follow him around at the gym. The most amazing thing about exercising everyday (and not just "exercising"… but really, really pushing myself to get stronger) is I think it's helping me with not getting sick! As some may know, after my gallbladder came out, I get sick after everything I eat. It's the absolute worst. On Friday I noticed that I hadn't been sick ONCE that week, which is incredible! I was sick the next Monday morning, maybe because of taking Sunday off…. hmm. We will see if it keeps helping! Plus, gym time is a set time every night that Jesse and I can spend together!

As for the second goal, we did surprisingly well with this too!  I am a terrible night eater. I love my snacks late at night while watching t.v. but this week Jesse and I didn't eat anything after dinner, except once! The night we did have something, it was fruit and popcorn while watching a show. I am quite proud of us for doing this!

Let's see if we can keep it up! Jesse and I will try and add a new goal each week in hopes of becoming healthier both physically and spiritually. For motivation, I try and always remember that my patriarchal blessing talks about staying strong in both these areas.

This weeks challenge: No T.V. (except one or two shows we really wanted to watch… aka bachelorette and SYTYCD:)) This one was Jesse's idea (obviously). We decided we could use our time more wisely and not watch re-runs of The Office… as much as we love those.

Hooray for goals!

Some random pictures from the week...

Yes, that is a face of anger and sadness. My legs were SO done.
Sarah is pretty awesome… I definitely cannot do this. All these new people join us for the work outs Jesse and I have been doing for weeks and do it better than me… bless my heart.
This day at the gym I was bothered by the fact that my right arm was so much stronger than my left! I could barely get a bicep curl done with my left arm but did it with ease with my right arm. Turns out… My right arm really is much stronger than my left. Jesse looked at me doing this and said, "Woah! No wonder you feel weaker on the other side… you are!" Please pay no attention to the chips and salsa and dirty dishes.
I'm loving this quick spinning work out these days!

Jesse and I feel much happier and more energetic when we get a good sweat in every day. We are lucky our summer schedule permits us to do that! Who knows what's going to happen in the fall when we are both going to school at weird times. We are also so grateful for our bodies and the ability we have to exercise.

P.S. I've been aching to do another triathlon! I was looking at these pictures the other day from when Jesse and I were dating.
And then, guess what happened? Jesse's friend Cade's brother and his wife want us to take their places in the Spudman triathlon in Idaho in two weeks! That is, if everything works out. We are super excited!  I am extremely nervous though. This race is an olympic one, so it's a one mile swim, 25-30 mile bike, and 10k run, which I have never done before. Who knows if my knees are even capable of running six miles, let alone after biking that many miles!? But we are hoping we can get our bodies trained for this race in the short amount of time we have! :)

The end.

You will love the spudman, I miss it. It's my favorite triathlon. The swim is easy because the current carries you pretty much. Just take it slow and easy and you will have a blast!...and that is quite weird about your left vs. right arm..ha ha just saying
