Knee Surgery

On Friday September 13th, 2013 I had surgery on my right knee. Yes, I know it was Friday the 13th but the doctor assured me it was a lucky day to have surgery. I think he was right. After many years of unexplainable knee pain, and having to cut back on running, I found a doctor that wanted to do an exploratory scope to see if he could find anything. The previous doctors said I had a fractured patella or told me they had no idea what was causing the pain and gave me a steroid injection and sent me on my way. I was praying and praying that my worst fear wouldn't come true, which was waking up from surgery and hearing the doc say "Sorry. There was nothing there. I don't know what else to do for you."  Well, I luckily woke up to a very kind doctor saying "There was a piece of fat stuck under your knee cap that it was grinding on. I removed it and you should be running in no time!" Huzzah! Best news ever. I literally cried right then and there. The nurse then came over all worried and asked if I was okay and I, all drugged up, said "I'm okay! I'm just really happy!" Hahaha. What a nerd. I got back to my room and hung out with my sweet mom for a while before Jesse got out of class to come. Ryan also came up from his floor of work and said hi for a bit. It's weird to say but I absolutely love the way going into and coming out of anesthesia feels. So, I was enjoying myself. I was also on a lot of pain killers and was real happy there was no pain at all in my knee. I was just happy as a clam cracking jokes left and right. After sitting with Jesse for a while and letting the nausea subside, the nurse told me to go to the bathroom then I could go home. Jesse wheeled me to the bathroom and stayed there with me to make sure I didn't die or something. I kid you not, I think I peed for like three minutes straight. The nurse came in while I was going because she didn't thought I was done… Nope. Sorry, ma'am. Anywho. Enough about my pee. Mom took me home and got me all settled on the couch, which would be my home for the next three days. I don't mind having to lay on the couch, loving life on percocet, taking naps, watching tv, and eating whatever  I want. Minus the knee pain and nausea, it was a good relaxing weekend. Sadly, I had to return to school on Monday, though. Little did I know, that was seriously the worst decision ever. I woke up feeling extremely nauseous but didn't want to miss lecture so I took some Phenergan that the doc prescribed and got my butt in Miranda's car to head to school. Along the way I started getting all tingly on the right side of my body. I was nauseous and dizzy and told miranda to leave me on the side of the road for my mom to come get me because this was a bad idea. We got to school late, so everyone is already seated, lecture started and here comes drunk dizzy Lysha on crutches and looking ever so pretty in sweats while Miranda carried my bags and pillow and all her stuff. You could say we were a bit distracting. She got my chair all set up for me so I could elevate my leg. Well, I suffered through about three hours of class with PAINFUL nausea, dizziness, and tingly body parts. I was soooo confused as to what was going on. I had been fine all weekend. Finally I called my mom to come pick me up. I went and sat in another room while I waited for her and just cried. I was so sick I thought I was going to die. I got in the car and the drive home was terrible. I kid you not I have never experienced such a thing. I was like hyperactive and I was shaking like crazy and tingling and having the worst nausea ever. About 15 minutes before getting home my mom said "Hey! Maybe you are allergic to the Phenergan!" Duh. I googled it on my phone and turns out I had all the symptoms. We got home and my mom called the ER just in case to see if we needed to come in. They said it should ware off soon but to keep a close eye on me because this can lead to seizures very quickly. Ahhhh! Scary. Apparently an allergic reaction to Phenergan speeds up your nervous system so you get all shaky and agitated and tingly! I took some benedryl and finally calmed down enough to fall asleep. The end. It was the most crazy thing I think my body as every experienced. So.. moral of the story. No Phenergan for lysha. Ever. Again. The rest of the recovery was good. I used crutches for a couple more days but finally was able to walk without them. It took a while to be able to bend it at all, though. Two weeks later I saw the doctor again and he said I was clear to start biking and such. So I did the next day and it felt great! I continued to start exercising on it and one day I got the courage to go on a little run. I only ran like 1.5 miles but it didn't hurt the entire time. It was a miracle. I loved it. Granted, now, I'm still having a little trouble with it. The pain that the surgery was for went away but sometimes another pain comes. Hopefully that will go away though. I still have a hard time kneeling on it and the nerves are sensitive. I might go to the doctor just to make sure everything is healing properly.

Ready to go!
All finished!
I love this sweet guy
Just some fat stuck under my kneecap.. you know.. that's normal.
Two great peoples.
I re-started the seasons of Grey's Anatomy over. This is a wonderful thing because I love this show and it kept be entertained. But it's also bad because from then on all I ever wanted to do was watch Greys… instead of studying and things.
I finally took my wrap off and took a bath and got to see my three baby battle scars.
And this was what my terrible day at school looked like…
