Flight Medical Week

One of the last things in securing Jesse's pilot slot was to pass the flight medical. We were both feeling anxious as he left to Ohio for a week long medical check. Jesse is a healthy guy but we were worried about his eyesight being correctable and what if there was something randomly wrong with him that we didn't know about that would eliminate him from being able to be a pilot?! We said a lot of prayers while preparing for this week and knew that happened would be the Lord's will.

The first day they did blood work and did chest x-rays. After finishing all the tests that day, Jesse was called back to meet with the doctor. No other cadet there was, so he was worried. He got there and they said that he needed a CT scan. They don't really tell you much the entire time, we found out, which is so hard! So, he did the CT scan without any reason why and went back to his hotel. We didn't hear from them unit the NEXT day! We had to anxiously await thinking he had lung cancer or something (because the obviously saw something wrong with the chest x-ray and needed a better look with the CT)! It was horrible. It seriously seemed like the longest 15 hours of my life and for Jesse lots worse, I'm sure. We cried on the phone together and made sure we were praying our hardest that nothing was wrong. Finally, the next morning, he went in to talk to the doctor about his results. The doctor said they saw nodules on his lungs in the X-ray and wanted a better look. They are apparently really common! He asked Jesse if he was a smoker or anything. Haha! Nope. None of that. He says they are usually benign, which is good, but that he should get them check again in a year or so to see if they've grown. The best news though was that this didn't disqualify him! Hooray! We were so happy! And so extremely grateful to the Lord.

Jesse finished the tests over the rest of the week and then the last day was eye checking day! Jesse doesn't have that good a vision, he needs to wear glasses for a lot of things, but his eyesight just couldn't be bad enough to not be corrected with surgery. He passed all the tests except two different depth perception tests. GRRREEAATT! You can't fail tests… they will disqualify you or have to get a waiver. The lady doing the tests didn't seem extremely hopefully because he couldn't pass it. Of course, we had to wait again to get more tests done and were unsure what was going to happen. He finally met with the optometrist and he said that some people's eyes have a hard time with that test but can pass another one. Jesse was able to pass the other test, thank heavens! But he still needed a waiver from the Air Force to pass and finish the medical. We had to wait to hear if the waiver went through until he could come home. After much time, and lots of prayers, the waiver came and he PASSED!!

Jesse said it was the longest week ever and that he has never prayed so hard in his life. He had lots of cool spiritual experiences there while waiting to hear about his future career. We are so grateful Jesse is healthy and able to continue on this path to becoming a pilot. He sure was blessed!!

While he was gone, I went to school, played with my family, and tried to keep up my working out without my buddy!

Off to Ohio!
Parkin' it with some of my faves
That's a "it was a long day" Jesse face
My watch came this week! I saw so many people using this watch to monitor their heart rate and count calories burned and I wanted one! Jesse ordered it for me and I was so excited to try it out! Guess what? It's seriously the greatest thing ever. I love seeing what my hard work is doing to my body.
 First workout using it!
Selfies because I'm happy and my husband needed some smiles during this hard week!
 Pizza Factory with my family!
Zumba class makes me sweat like CRAZY! I leave my hair down and it makes it lots worse. I love it. But… I look just a little greasy afterwards…
Then Jesse finally came home officially a future USAF pilot!
And boys was he tired! :)
