My First RN Job
In September I started my first RN job! I decided that while I was applying to and waiting for IHC jobs, I might as well get some experience and earn some money. And I truly enjoyed my time as a CNA at Orem Rehab, so I was happy when they hired me back!
To say the least, it's the busiest job ever. I like it most days but it is seriously sometimes too much for me. On certain halls I am the only nurse for 30 patients, 15 on others. And they all need their morning, afternoon, and evening meds at the same time. Plus they all ask for their pain meds on the dot... at the same time, I swear. So I'm usually running around like a crazy. I'm having a hard time just being the med giver... I don't have time to get to know my patients and connect as much as I want to. BUUUUUT it's a job. And I'm learning. And I reeeeallly like my paychecks. Haha. So, it's fine.
There might be some new stuff in my future... so we will see. For the time being, I'll keep my head up, be patient, and work as hard as I can to be a good nurse.
*now prepare for a lot of work selfies*
On my first training day, I asked Jesse if he had a little notebook I could borrow. And he said yes, and said he put it in my scrubs pocket. When I pulled it out at work I found this note written on the first page... Best. Surprise. Ever. So dang sweet.
On my third training day, I was so busy all day! I literally didn't pee until I went home, I didn't sit or eat until 4pm. It was crazy. But I kinda enjoyed it.
Hopefully I get used to this whole 5 am wake up call...
See those white dots all over me? Yeah. Feeding tube juices. It's fine. This was a rough night for me. It was the first time I worked the 6pm-12am shift and it did not go as planned. It was way too busy for my liking, I had a dying patient come who had so much equipment I've never used, his feeding tube or oxygen wouldn't work, peoples meds were missing.. blah blah blah. It was 12:30 am and I hadn't charted a thing. Needless to say, I called Jess in the med room real quick and he gave me encouraging words. I cried for a second in there and then sucked it up and got back to work! I ended up getting home around 3:30 am. Haha.. things have got better since then, so that's good.
This past Sunday I did my first ever night shift!! I was doing alright until about 1:30 am... Oh goodness. I also had been awake since like 9 am that day.. so, I don't blame my grandma self. Anyway, the night is much slower than the day, obviously, so I liked that part. But I'm pretty sure I was a zombie the whole night. I got home around 7 am and slept from 8-1:30pm. Out like a light! It was great. The end.
Fell asleep on my break... bad idea! Bad idea!
This is from my day yesterday on the busy hall. Who needs a gym pass when you have my job?!
ANYWHO! Even with all craziness, I am grateful for this job. And the fact that we can finally start paying off our loans :)
