SCIDM 2015
This year Jesse was in charge of planning the SCIDM trip to California for the honor guard. And he, of course, did a great job! Everything went so smoothly that weekend. Friday morning we got to the det, loaded the bus, and left at 4:45 am! We drove until we got to Vegas where we stopped to have the drill team do a performance for the JRROTC at a cadets old high school. His mom also provided lunch for all of us, which was super sweet. We kept driving and finally got to our hotel in California, checked in, watched the drill team practice outside for a while, then a couple of us walked down the street to Cafe Rio for dinner. We got all showered and headed to bed!
The next morning was competition day! It was a long day of standing around in a parking lot, waiting for our turn to perform, and stuff. But the guys did great! It was fun to watch their performances. That night we headed to the beach to have bonfire! We made a fire, ate hotdogs and smores, listened to funny stories, and watched the boys throw each other into the freezing ocean! We left the next morning on what seemed like the longest drive ever... haha! We did get to stop in Vegas at that same cadets house and his parents had made this giant, wonderful costa vida style lunch! They had tables set up in the garage with cute little Mexican decorations everywhere. After eating there, two pilots in their ward came and talked to us. It was sweet of them to set it all up! We continued on our way and finally got home late Sunday night.
I was happy to be able to be apart of the weekend with the detachment!
Made it to the hotel!
Practicing outside the hotel the night before
Taking up the whole hotel lobby for dinner!
I had to buy a SCIDM t-shirt, of course!
It was a tad windy....
I sure love this guy
Woohoo! They won first/best overall in two categories and second in another!
Now... beach time! The water was freezing, it was windy out, and these boys didn't even care!
They were being navy seals, of course
Long drive home... luckily we had LOTR and seeds to keep us entertained
