Our First Military Move - Travel Days
We left Utah on Sept. 20th to head to Wichita Falls, Texas! Because the military would pay us for 3 days of travel, we decided to take that many days down. The first day was the longest drive, to Albuquerque, but it went really well! I was comfortable (as much as I could be while being 35 weeks in a tight little car...:)), Jess didn't seem too tired driving, and we just listened to some talks, watched movies, and ate snacks. We checked into our hotel, had some late night breakfast at Village Inn, watched a show while Jess ran in the gym, and then got a good nights rest for the next day!
Kim and Pa came over to say goodbye the morning we left. It was sad to say goodbye to both our parents... they are such amazing people and have taken such good care of us the last five years we've been together...and now we are on our own! Crazy!
Nothin like a nice caramel apple :)
And a cup of ice for me! Yay for gas stations helping me with my chewing ice addiction...
Sometimes you just gotta be like Poppa Keith and pick the best car ride treat!
Hotel #1!
Travel day number two -- drive to Amarillo! We drove the short distance to Amarillo to spend some time with Mark and Stephanie. We met at Jesse's grandma's house to say hi to her and have lunch, then checked into our hotel, I took a nap and watched tv while Jesse went to the gym (sound familiar? hahaha... I'm just lazy and fat and don't have energy to exercise any more), then we met Mark and Steph at their dance studio for a bit before heading to a delicious steakhouse dinner and back to his grandma's house to say goodbye! Then got all rested up again for our last travel day!
Rested, and ready to get to Amarillo!
Jesse's dad said that we should stop at "The Blue Hole" along the way! Apparently him and the kids would stop there on their drives to and from Utah and Texas all the time. It was seriously really pretty... such blue deep water! We secretly wanted to go swimming but realized how inconvenient that was... haha but it was a good little break out of the car!
No editing...this is seriously just what it looked like!
Woohoo!
Cute Jess and his Grandma eating turkey sandwiches together :)
Hotel #2
I loved getting to watch Mark teach for a little bit... made me miss the good old days!
Travel day number three -- off to Wichita Falls! Even though the base is only like 3.5 hours from Jesse's dad, it felt like the longest drive ever. Jesse was tired and I was tired and uncomfortable and didn't know how to entertain him haha but we finally made it to the base; our first base! As soon as we got there, we went straight to the ENJJPT building to "check in" and start in-processing. This began a whole bunch of paperwork and running around the base... a literal scavenger hunt. But more on that to come. We had our housing appointment at 2pm to sign for our house and get the keys! Our stuff wasn't supposed to arrive for a few more days, so luckily we have our friends Seth and Elise just right down the street who have been so helpful. They fed us dinner that night and let us borrow some chairs and an air mattress.
We finally arrived!
We got home, to a very empty house, after a long day and sat on the floor to plan our tomorrow! We had a big to do list to get done and nothing else to do the next day... so we planned to get a lot of it completed!
We are happy to have made it to our new city and home for the next 1.5 years! Time for an adventure!
