Lucy's First Trip to the ER
Sunday July 3rd -- Lucy woke up with a fever and not feeling well. I thought she was just teething so she stayed home with dad while I went to church to help with nursery. Once I got home, we spent the day snuggling, sleeping, and more snuggling. Lucy was a complete zombie! It was the saddest thing! She literally didn't leave my arms the entire day....just laid on my chest all day. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVED all the cuddles, but obviously felt so bad for my sick baby.
She had a fever stuck at 103 for most the day. Tylenol wasn't doing anything! Finally around 7 pm, she was at 104 and I decided we should just take her in. I didn't want her to have a seizure or anything and I didn't know what else to do!
So, we got to the ER at the hospital where I work, and the first thing they do is give her some Ibuprofen, because apparently sometimes that helps better with fevers than Tylenol. UMMM duh! I felt so dumb, I'm a nurse and didn't even THINK about ibuprofen. I forgot all about it being made for infants too! Once that kicked in, she started to perk up and become more like herself. They did a strep culture (negative!) and a chest xray, which showed a little congestion. Luckily, nothing else!
After a couple hours of waiting, and a not so awesome Mcdonalds dinner, we made it home. The next morning Lucy was much better! I felt kind of silly we took her to the ER, but in that moment I didn't know what else to do, haha! I'm just happy she got better quick. It was no fun to see her so sad -- but with feeling better, the snuggles went away too! Sad!
