Utah Week 6 and Home To Arizona: August 27th-30th

Sunday was going to be our last full day here in Utah. We got to play with family and go to baby Ethel's blessing at Josh's house. I said goodbye to the Lanham crew and spent one last evening with my family.

So last weekend brought two hospital visits with undiagnosable pain for me (which eventually just went away....what the what?!), a cold for Charlie, and the stomach flu for Lucy. So the following Monday, August 28th, my mom and I and the kids were scheduled to fly to Arizona, so my mom could help us get unpacked and settled. Jesse and my dad took a three day trip and drove both our cars from Texas to Arizona. Jess got into our house and was so excited and ready to see his family again! (Can we talk about how selfless my parents are?!)

Well, I woke up really early Monday morning with a slight stomach ache. We have been so nervous that my mom, me, or Charlie would get the stomach bug too. And guess what? It was my turn! The amount of vomit and diarrhea that followed, accompanied with some of the worst pain ever, was absolutely terrible. My mom took care of both kids all day while I lived on the toilet. After about 6 hours of that, I was finally able to just lay in bed. With the body aches and chills. My sweet mom brought me water and popsicles and Charlie when he needed to be fed. Our flight was at like 1pm...as soon as we realized I wasn't physically capable of getting up and on the plane, we had to change our tickets last minute. We finally decided just to have me and the kids fly home on Wednesday. We weren't excited to spend two more days apart from Jesse, but there was pretty much no other option.

Anyway, I finally felt better by that night and was able to pack and get the kids ready to leave Wednesday afternoon. My mom got me all settled at the airport, then all I had to do was survive the next couple hours and we would be together as a family again! Sadly, the flight was seriously awful. Charlie pretty much screamed the entire time and Lucy was up and down on the chair, wanting nothing to do with all the distractions I brought, dropping treats, etc. I am so grateful for the kind people around me who helped me make it to Mesa. The lady next to us on the plane played with Lucy while I tried to console Charlie. Then when we got off, this nice man and his family held Lucy while I held baby as we walked down the ramp. He then got my stroller from the workers for me and set it up. Gosh, I was so grateful. I was about to lose it, and they were angels.

We finally got to the baggage claim and guess who was there?! DADDY! Hooray! Guys, as soon as Lucy saw him she was so happy and excited, smiling non-stop, and CRYING HAPPY TEARS! I didn't even know children were capable of crying tears of joy, but she totally did and it is a moment I will remember forever!  She wrapped her arms around her daddy and didn't let go. And as soon as I saw Jesse and hugged him I just cried. It had been the hardest week of my life, not to mention the other 5 weeks of struggling to be a mother of two without him. It was like everything this week was keeping us apart but we finally were together. We drove for about 45 minutes before arriving to our new base and home!

These 6 weeks were some of the hardest times I've experienced. Being a new mom of two, in someone else's house, without my husband, going through so much sickness and struggle, was just more than I could handle sometimes, I'll be honest. But I had family surrounding me, and my dear mom who deserves every award ever for being such a great grandma. I am happy though that I got to spend so much time with everyone in Utah and do fun things with the kids.

We are ready to get settled in our new house as our little family!
